Oscar Rubsam of Newton, IL passed away at 2:30 PM Monday, May 14, 2012, at Newton Rest Haven in Newton, IL
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, May 18, 2012, at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvery Cemetery in Newton, IL with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. In loving memory of Oscar, memorials may be made to the St. Thomas Church building fund.
Oscar was born on July 8, 1924 in Newton, IL the son of John and Rosa (Ochs) Rubsam. He married Dorothy M. Kuenstler on September 13, 1949 in Wendelin, IL, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2009. Oscar was a lifelong painter. He was a lifelong member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Oscar enjoyed making crafts and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Oscar is survived by 4 children Gary Rubsam, Steve (Earlene) Rubsam, Greg (Carol) Rubsam all of Newton, IL and Cheryl (Chris) Roth of Noblesville, IN; sisters bernadette Watkins of Florence, KY, Charlene Westendorf of Teutopolis, IL, Gertrude (Ron) Russo of Marseilles, IL and Carolyn Walters of Indianapolis, IN; brothers Victor Rubsam of Peoria, IL, Elmer (Marilyn) Rubsam of Lockport, IL and Donald (Carolyn J.) Rubsam of Florissant, Mo; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchilden and 1 expected great grandchild in the next few months. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son Brian Rubsam, 2 brothers Walter and Robert Rubsam and a sister Rosemary Schopp.
